Living Above The Line

How to live above the line and create a meaningful life....

At any given moment, you are either living above the line or below the line. This is also referred to as 'cause versus effect' thinking. The question to ask yourself is, “Which side of the line am I living on?”

Are you living above the line, or at cause? Or are you living below the line, also known as living at effect of things that happen to you?

Before you answer that question, let’s take a look at each side.

To identify whether you are living below the line, listen to your words carefully. Do you often play the blame-game? Are your moods influenced heavily by your circumstances? This is one of the most damaging ways to live. Your life is full of drama that originates from blaming others and playing the victim.

In relationships, blaming is a form of emotional abuse, and reduces intimacy between two people. This leads to endless justification - This is actually a classic example of shifting responsibility. Someone who wants to avoid responsibility will usually try to justify the reasons they failed to perform a certain task. It’s based on the lines of “it’s not me, it’s them” (or circumstances, technology, others and so on).

Denying is another way to live below the line. Similar to justification, denial is an attitude rooted in escaping responsibility. It’s the mindset of “I didn’t do it”, which means the result was an “effect” of some external circumstance or another person’s doing. Again, it is living below the line, or at the effect side of things and it is creating what we don’t want. When our thoughts become consumed with worry, we become a beacon of worry to the world.

If prayer is an intention that we announce to the universe in order to create a desired outcome, then our every thought is a prayer. This includes thoughts of worry as well as of trust. All thoughts are subtle creative energy. Some thoughts are more focused or repeated more often, gathering strength. Some are written down or spoken, giving them even greater power. Every thought we have is part of a process whereby we co-create our experience and our reality with the universe. When we use our creative energy unconsciously, we create what is commonly known as self-fulfilling prophecy. In essence, when we worry, we are repeatedly praying and lending our energy to the creation of something we don't want.

The good news is that we can re-train our minds and thoughts to focus our energy on what we do desire to bring into our lives. Since most worry is repetitive, it will take more than one positive thought to counteract the energy we've created. The simplest antidote to worry is affirmations. When we hold these positive thoughts, repeat them often, speak them and write them and refer to them throughout our day, we are using focused energy to create positive results.

We can start right away, together: I am a creative being, using my energy to co-create a wonderful world. I know that I create my experience of life from within and as I do so, I also create ripples of energy around me that echo into the world. My positive thoughts gather together with the thoughts and prayers of others and together we create enough positive energy to heal not only our own lives, we heal the world we share. I am grateful for the ability to co-create good in my life and in the world.

A lot of times we have concerned loved ones that worry about us. When this happens they are also sending out a worry prayer to the world. A loving conversation letting them know what is happening is the easiest solution. Also, ask them to send you positive affirmations rather than worry about you. After all, worry doesn't do them any good either. Explain to them that worry can actually be energetically harmful to you and that wishing good things for you is much more beneficial and much more fun too.

In the case of above the line thinking, the grass is indeed greener on the other side. By choosing to live above the line, we embrace 100% responsibility. It’s a simple yet powerful belief that we create everything that happens in our life. So whatever you choose, when you live above the line, it’s your own creating.

The only thing preventing you from achieving what you want are the beliefs you form and the stories you tell yourself. People who go through life on the cause side of equation have results that speak. You embrace ownership and responsibility, which gives you the maximum power to create the life you want.
